A Mail Archive Server

The increasing employment of Internet services, especially that of Electronic Mail, confronts many users with the problem of processing, storing and eventually retrieving large amounts of e-mail. Many tools have been introduced to facilitate these jobs. However, most existing solutions are limited in their utility, because they apply archives mostly files and directories which are rigid in their structure once they are created, and they scarcely provide functions to manage large numbers of stored articles. Moreover, most of these tools are unable to properly process multimedia e-mail, the importance of which is steadily growing. This thesis describes the design and implementation of an archive server which does not employ files for storage, but Hyper-G, a Hypermedia Information System. By this special approach, the server overcomes the weaknesses of conventional solutions, and in addition, it offers a lot of advanced functions which are new in the field of mail processing.
